Wanted a few good men (and models)
The club is doing static and flying displays on Saturday 25th June for the Crewkerne Rotary Club Fun-Day at Hinton Park Farm Hinton-Saint-George, near Roundham. The Map reference is ST412108; see online map at Streetmap.co.uk. The best approach starts from Crewkerne, travelling west (toward Chard) along the A30; go through Roundham village and past the Travellers Rest pub. About ½mile later turn right up Liddon Hill, the entrance is on the left, over a cattle grid with the flying field ahead of you as the drive turns left.
This is a display for the public, so you need a B certificate to fly, but every-one can help man the stand, bring a model for the static display, act as spotters for the fliers etc.
Please aim to arrive 13:00 to 13:00; and bring an item or model to display on the static line. N.B. Mike Oxford is co-ordinating this event.
Levee
A one off levee of £15 per member was agreed at the EGM, will any members who havent paid yet; please do so ASAP We need the money!
Site changes
Pits position
We will be moving the pits uphill away from the patch. This is required by BMFA safety guidelines, it should reduce any risk of an overshoot landing in the pits area.
Pits shape
We will be making the pits wider and shallower, this should allow everyone to set-up on the uphill edge of the pits, facing the patch, and with no need to thread through others while carrying / wheeling their model to and fro.
Parking
As advised last time :- At request of the farmer, please park close (but still up-hill) of the new gate when possible.
Path
As advised last time :- To improve safety, we have moved the path (between parking to the flying patch) uphill E.G. towards the main road. This will mean those loading / unloading will no longer be overflown by people on landing approach.
Merriot Hovering patch
As a consequence of the BMFA required pits changes (see above), the separate helicopter hovering patch is now too close to the pits for safety. Would those who used to hover there, like to consider how we should replace it?
Newsletter distribution
This newsletter is meant to be for all members, but currently I just post a copy on the web and email every-one; this means people not on the net dont get to see it. From now on I will be printing a few copies, to bring to club meetings and the flying patch, there will also be a copy or two with Richard at the shop.
Does any one have a better way of doing this (apart for letter post which we cant afford)?
Indoors
The second of our experimental indoor flying sessions took place on Monday 16th May. There where about 10 of us with a mixture of fixed wing and helicopters. The evening was a success so we hope to arrange more sessions soon. The best times for the hall are already booked, so timing is dependent on people pulling out. Richard will publicise the dates once they have been decided.

Missed it (for this year)
The Wessex Scale league had a flying day at Pitney on Sunday 15th May. This was well worth at least an afternoon, with some very good scale models to see. Pitney is between Somerton and Langport, so quite close, and the flying field is something to aspire to! Remember this one for next year.

A Sopwith Pup you Editor forgot to get any other details. |
A Flair Mosquito, much admired by Ted Sadler, who thinks these kits may well be available cheap on Ebay. |

The marvellous detail here shows the advantages of 1:1 scale |

Hazelbury Mill, Model engineers Exhibition
This was the show's first year, so it was mostly model railways, and large scale trains (including a live steam demo of models big enough to ride astride). Well organised, with the big semi-permenant marquee which kept the rain off everyone, and parking very close.
